Are you ready to take your health and wellness into your own hands? Are you looking for a truly individualized healthcare plan? Herbalism is about finding balance- not just in your physical body, but also in your psycho-spiritual and energetic bodies.

Charley is trained in Southern Folk Medicine, which is a blend of traditions from European, Native American, and African practices. Unlike Ayurvedic and Chinese herbalism, the Southern Folk method uses herbs native to our region whenever possible. This means that the remedy you most need could be growing in your own back yard! But don’t worry, those herbs also come in conveniently packaged bottles.

What conditions can be treated with herbs?

Any imbalance can be aided with herbs. That is not to say that herbs can cure every disease. Herbal remedies are about helping the body to do its own healing. By providing the body with what it needs, you are providing the space and energy for healing.

Okay, but what conditions can be treated with herbs?

Charley is most fond of working with clients who need help with chronic ailments, general unease, women’s health imbalances, as well as those who are looking for general longevity, illness prevention, and wellness plans. If you have an acute illness, you should see your primary healthcare practitioner.

What if I’m taking pharmaceutical medication, but want to improve my health?

Great! We can work with that. Herbalism is integrative healthcare. There is always a time and place for modern medicine, in which cases, we are so thankful for it! While herbal remedies are gentle, there are some known herb-drug interactions. When coming up with your wellness plan, this will be taken into account. Charley will never recommend that you stop taking a medication that has been prescribed to you.

Can herbs solve all my problems?

Yes! Wait. No. The herbs act as a catalyst to get you moving int the right direction. If you’re feeling depressed, herbal remedies can give you the spark you need to make changes in your life. If you take herbs but decide not to make any lifestyle changes, you’ll still be stuck in the same patterns. Herbalism works in conjunction with lifestyle changes. That said, herbs are pure magic and can do some amazing things.

Lifestyle changes? Are you putting me on a diet?

There is no one perfect diet for all of humankind. Food can be geared toward creating balance in the individual. Finding your own optimal diet can take a bit of trial and error, but thankfully, with the Southern Folk method of constitutional mapping, we’ll have you ironed out in no time. You may have heard of the three doshas of Ayurvedic Medicine. Kapha, Pitta, and Vata. Basically, these are three most common body types. We won’t bore you with too much theory, except to say that a person who is tall and thin, with dry skin and hair, and is feeling wired and anxious with not need the same foods as a person who is short and heavy, with oily skin and hair, who feels depressed and tired.

And to answer your question, no, we’re not putting you on a diet. We are providing education, and you can do with that what you will. If you like your current diet just fine, that’s great. White Willow is a judgment free zone. But if you need help feeling better, we can talk about it.

Do you suggest herbs according to constitutions as well?

Yes! That’s what Southern Folk Medicine is all about. If both people in the example above presented with the same ailment, say chronic insomnia, they would not receive the same wellness plan or the same herbal remedies. This means that your wellness plan is as individual as you are.
