Frequently Asked Questions

Is massage right for me?

Chances are, yes! However, massage is not suitable for some medical conditions such as acute inflammatory conditions including lymphedema, fever or contagious illness, and blood clot disorders, to name a few. If you're uncertain if massage is safe for you, please contact your primary care provider.

Do I have to undress completely?

You should always feel comfortable during your massage. After a brief intake, your therapist will leave the room to allow you to undress to your comfort level. White Willow Massage Therapy practices conservative draping, ensuring that you'll never feel exposed. We will only uncover the area of your body that we're working on. Some clients are comfortable being completely undressed while others prefer to leave on undergarments. Some clients will be more comfortable with some articles of clothing on. Any of these options are completely acceptable.

Does deep tissue massage hurt?

The short answer is no. However, your deep tissue massage may feel intense at times. If you're ever feeling pain, you should let your therapist know immediately and she will adjust the pressure to your comfort.Remember that your nerve endings are your own and we can't feel your feelings.

Should I tip my massage therapist?

Sure! While tips aren't mandatory by any means, they are appreciated. Massage is an important part of your wellness routine. If finances are an issue, do not feel obligated to tip.

How should I expect to feel after a massage? What about aftercare?

After your massage, you should feel relaxed, physically, energetically, and emotionally. You may feel invigorated, sleepy, or hungry. We recommend that you drink plenty of water, eat healthy food, and get plenty of rest. If you feel sore the next day, let your massage therapist know and she will adjust the massage pressure accordingly.

How often should I have a massage?

Every body is different. Some clients see us weekly, while others come in every six weeks. For regular maintenance, just like changing the oil in your car, we recommend at least one massage per month to keep your mind and body healthy and happy.

Are you located downtown? What about parking?

We are located dowtown, but just barely. You can find us easily from New Circle Road at either the Richmond Road exit or Winchester Road exit. We have a parking lot directly behind our office, so you won't have to worry about finding a spot on the street.

How do I cancel or reschedule my appointment?

If you need to cancel or reschedule, you may do so from the appointment confirmation email you received upon booking your appointment. If you lost the email, no worries, just give us a call at (859) 687-7010.
